StewardshipA Commitment to Good Stewardship"Man is himself the author, center, and goal of all economic and social life. The decisive point of the social question is that goods created by God for everyone should in fact reach everyone in accordance with justice and with the help of charity." -Catechism of the Catholic Church, #2459 God created each of us in His image through the pure gift of Himself. It is only right that we should give of ourselves wholly and purely to each other and to all of God's Creation, in order to be living images of His goodness and to give glory to His name. At St. Bernadette Catholic School, it is not out of obligation that we seek to become good stewards of God's Creation. Rather, having received the gifts of God, we seek to become like Him- loving as He loves, and caring for everyone and everthing around us as He always cares for us. We serve Him and His people out of gratitude for the dignity He has so graciously bestowed upon us. As students, teachers, staff, and parents continue to grow in charity and justice, all work to improve the lives of those around us and the world in which we live. Whether bringing handmade blankets to and visiting with senior citizens at Mullen Home or spending a morning with our nation's veterans, serving refreshments and singing patriotic songs, every member of the St. Bernadette's family is eager to serve the greater community. Students meet God most intimately by drawing near to His people and the needs surrounding them, and the service they give is their own, both in plan and action.Directed by our middle school religion teacher, Mrs. Hart, the group Students in Action (SIA) leads community service projects they plan themselves, involving not only themselves but the entire school, students and families. Each project is student-driven and entrusted to the care and patronage of a saint whose life reflects the virtues learned. Each afternoon, students lead a prayer of request for guidance and intercession, in which each student in the school joins, providing yet another opportunity to become aquainted with our brothers and sisters in faith who have gone before us. It is our goal that no student leaves St. Bernadette's without understanding the value of finding one's vocation to God's call to love, justice, and respect for the dignity of ALL life- is a gift we have been given and a gift we desire to share with the world. |
